Ava opened her eyes gently and was surprised to see herself on her bed. She sat up immediately, and saw Paul in her room looking at her stuffs.

“Dad,” she called, and he looked at her.

“Why do you have so many sleeping pills, who prescribed all these?”

“Dad, why are you poking around?”

“How long have you been living these way Ava?”

“What do you care? Just leave them there,”

“I’ll ask a maid to dispose all of these,”

“No! Give them back!” She yelled, and get up. “That’s the only way I can relax, give it back,” she cried, and he embraced her.

“You don’t need these anymore, you are safe now. Daddy, will always protect you,” he said, patting her back gently.

“Even though I am not your biological daughter? The news is everywhere, dad, and I’m going to be bursted soon,” she muttered, and disengaged to look at him.

“How long have you known?”

“Dad…”

“Probably before you went to England. Am I right?”

“Dad, you promise to protect me,”

“You must have carried that huge burden alone, living in fear this while time with hopes that your cover won’t be blown,”

“Dad… I can only be your daughter, I can only live as your daughter,” she cried.

“Then keep on living, because I am not willing to give you up either. You are my daughter that I love so much, and vow to protect, I might have failed a lot of promises, but I refuse to fail you,” he said, and embraced her.

“Thank you, dad. Thank you for not abandoning me,” she muttered, in a sober voice.

HOLLAND HIGH^^^

Paulina sat alone on the rooftop on the cafeteria’s rooftop thinking about the news going around about Ava when Sophia joined her.

“Lina, what are you doing here alone?”

“And you? Why are you here?”

“This is my safe haven,”

“Same,”

“The news about Ava, do you think it’s truth?”

“Everyone think it is, so why should my opinion matter?”

“You are closer to her, you live together. Oh… you two are enemies. But others are getting a second thought after the chairman came to school himself to take her home himself. He must really love her a lot, you should have seen the concern look on his face. Everyone are talking about it,”

“Yes, he must really adore her a lot even though she might be a b@stard,” she muttered, with clenched fist.

“Lina, are you ok?”

“I’m fine. Can we stop talking about Ava? You know I despise her,”

“Oh, yeah, we should. The news is just too shocking to ignore,”

“Hey, girls,” they heard Sage voice from behind.

“Oh, bye Lina. My driver is here. Bye, Sage,” Sophia said, and ran off.

“Sophie, wait!” Sage shouted, but she ignored him. “She left her bag,” he muttered, and sat next to Paulina. “Are you ok?”

“I’m fine,”

“Doesn’t it seem like Sophie is avoiding me? She has been like this since I gave her a ride the other day, I think she is truly serious about calling it quit. But why am I the only one she is avoiding?“

“Sage, Sophie said she likes someone,”

“Who the h£ll is he? Did he ask her to avoid me? What kind of a$$hole does that?”

“Not that. She isn’t avoiding you. She like the guy, but she isn’t sure about his own feelings,”

“That’s bad. I can’t imagine her harboring a one-sided feeling. That’s not good for her,”

“So, what do you advise? Should she confess to him, or give up on him?”

“I personally… I despise girls who confess first,” he muttered, and she looked at him. “I mean… you are a lady, you deserve to be a man that cherish you, if you like him and he didn’t even notice, that means he has no feelings for her. It’s going to be a taint to her pride if she confess first. There are strategies in things, why like a jerk who doesn’t even realize it? You should move on from such jerk,” he said.

“He is indeed a jerk!” They heard Sophia blurted from behind.

“Sophie, you were there. Who is that jerk? Is he a student here?”

“What does that have to do with you?” She yelled, and hit her bag on him before running off.

“Hey! That hurts!” He whined, and Paulina chuckled.

“The guy could actually not be a jerk “

“If he is not a jerk, the he doesn’t like her. So, she should just give up. You, what do you advise?” He asked, and she shook her shoulders staring at the sky.

The MASS were heading to t the parking lot, and Austin didn’t stop talking about Ava.

“The chairman personally came here himself to take her home from the clinic. He carried her like a baby-…”

“Will you give it a rest?” Micheal snapped.

“I know you don’t like hearing her name, but I can’t let this gist pass by. Rumors is circulating online that Ava could be an illegitimate, the chairman’s love child,” Austin said, and Stanley gasped.

“Then how many illegitimate does he have?” Micheal grumbled, and they both looked at him.

“What do you mean? Did he have another b@stard?“ Austin asked.

“I meant to say… those are all gibberish lies. Why would the chairman have an illegitimate daughter? I mean… why would his wife accept an illegitimate daughter with how powerful she is? The Packard’s have mighty political power, the chairman would know better,”

“You are right, but there could be a reason,” Austin said.

“This says that she was switched at birth,” Steve said.

“What?” They all shouted, and he showed them the comment.

“This could be real,” Austin gasped.

“Why aren’t we thinking of the possibility that she might be a b@stard? Her mother’s child, and not a Stanford,” Stanley said.

“That’s enough! Everyone is just buffing online. We’ve plans, don’t forget, we can’t lose to those clowns,” Michael said, and they all nodded.

“Stanley, are you running off again?” They heard Jessica said, approaching them, and Stanley gasped.

“Hey, Jess. How can our genius help you?” Austin asked.

“Are you two dating?” Micheal inquired.

“What nonsense? Stanley is not willing to give up on math-…”

“Yes!” Stanley shouted.

“Yes, for what?” Austin blurted.

“Are you really dating?” They all chorused.

CHAIRMAN STANFORD’S MANSION^^^
^
Grace sneaked inside passing through the back gate because the front gate was crowed with nosy reporters.

She went to the living room, and met Paul there.

“I told you to step down, but instead, you chose to hurt our daughter,”

“Paul… I can’t step down now. It’s already too late,”

“Then what will you do? How do you want to answer those reporters out there, how will you manipulate the mind of the citizens that will vote for you? Your range dropped. Aren’t you calculating?”

“This is all your fault, if you have attended the conference with me, this wouldn’t have happened!” She shouted, and broke down in tears.

“What exactly is my fault? Accepting Ava, or asking you to step down for her sake,”

“Paul… how could you know all these while and keep it to yourself?”

“I knew that the baby wasn’t mine from the moment you shared the news about your pregnancy. Nothing happened between us that night, I might be drunk but I never lose my memories even when I’m drunk. Nothing happened between us, but you claimed to be pregnant,“

“Why didn’t you say anything back then? I lied about carrying your baby, so why did you just accept it?” She yelled.

“I was going to marry you either ways, cause that was the only way to protect my company. I, I was a c0ward that accepted you even with your b@stard baby to protect my company. That’s what I am. Are we good now?”

“But you would have still said something later, why did you pretend not to know anything all these years?”

“Because the baby was innocent. She was just an innocent child that I wanted to protect, and I’ll continue to protect her. You should do the same, for the sake of our daughter,”

“Paul, you are going to protect Ava… then you should protect her. As you said, she is just an innocent child, she should have never been born if she wasn’t going to be your daughter, she shouldn’t have come to the world in the first place if she is going to be an obstacle, so you should protect her,”

“What are you planning to do?”

“I’ll go out there to tell them the result of the parental test, Ava is not your daughter, neither is she mine. We will hold the hospital responsible,”

“What?! Are you out of your mind?”

“Paul, that’s the only way out of this. Ava has to he switched at birth for me to get people’s support,”

“Do you think your opponent will do nothing? They already know who her biological father is! Get your tact together, Grace, and stop hurting the child even more,”

“What do I do, Paul?” She cried.

“You step down, and set things right. I’ll send Ava back to England until everything dles down,”

“And if I step down… what’s going to happen to our marriage afterwards?”

“Let’s worry about that later. Ava should be our too priority now,”

“Dad will go to jail if he is filled guilty, and I’ll lose all my powers as well. You don’t waht this marriage from the start, do you plan to escape it now?”

“Enough, Grace! I’ll go out to adress those reporters,”

“What will you tell them?”

“A press conference, we will address everything in a press conference tomorrow,”

“You are going to send Ava abroad, discard me and return to Charlotte… you lie Paul. Since you aren’t going to abandon Ava, you mustn’t abandon me too,” she thought, staring at his retreating back.
**
When Paulina returned from school, she couldn’t stop thinking about Ava’s scandal, so she decide to go and confirm it from her father directly. Getting to his living room, she overheard his conversation with Grace.

“He knew all along that she was a b@stard, and he allowed her mistreat me like a freeloader. Did he love her that much?” She thought, and clenched her fist in anger.

She was heading back to her room and met Ava by the hallway.

“You must think I will lose to you, but you lie!” Ava blurted, and Paulina glared at her.

“Give it a rest already. If you had this must energy, you shouldn’t have pretended to faint at school!” Paulina fired back, and intend to walk past her but Ava dragged her back.

“You must think dad is going to abandon mum and I, and must be rejoicing now. Let me make something clear, the news might breakout now, but I have been a Stanford all my life, and dad will never abandon me! And you, you will forever be a hidden illegitimate daughter!”

“So much talk from a b@stard,” Paulina muttered, and intend to leave, but Ava dragged her back by pulling her hair.

They both combat in a fight, pulling each other’s hair until Paul showed up.

“What’s going on here?!” He yelled, and they halt to look at him.

“Dad, Ava started it. She pulled my hair first!”

“ “Ava, are you going to keep this up?”

“She caused it. She called me a b@stard!” Ava blurted, and Paul let out an ugh.

“Paulina…” Paul called.

“What, dad? Isn’t she a b@stard? When she called me an illegitimate and bully me, you did nothing. So are you going to defend her now?” Paulina snapped, and ran to her room.

“Dad, do I have to live this way? If I am going to receive humiliations from her, then it’s best you just abandon me. I am not even your child, she is your biological daughter after all,” Ava cried, and he went to embrace her.

“I’ll never abandon you, Ava. You have been my daughter for eighteen years, and you will always remain my daughter,”he assured, and she smirked evilly.

MR. PACKARD’S MANSION^^^
^
Mr. Packard was going through in post online about Grace when Mr. Ken approached him. He chuckled after seeing Paul’s statement.

“Why did she abandoned me if she is going to turn out like this?” He muttered.

“Sir, I already got lawyers that can represent you,”

“How maby are they?”

“They are eight lawyers, and they all have high winning points,”

“Good. What did they say about the evidence?”

“They assured us that you can be ruled innocent, if there is no other evidence. And the minister promise to clear the Tax issue with a little fine,”

“That’s good. We just have to confirm if there are no other evidence,”

“Sir, what are you going to do about Ms. Grace?”

“This is her first assignment, but she failed. She can’t even get anything done on her own without my help,”

“Will you stay quiet about it?”

“Let’s see how the press conference tomorrow goes. The first hearing is a day after. We should prepare for that first,”

“Ok, sir,”

“That gangster lord, I want you to get him on track, he failed the last time, so he should get it right this time. We have to make sure the hearing goes as we plan,”

“What do you plan to do, sir?”

“I don’t know. But I need a hostage to ensure everything fall in place,”

“I’ll bet to it, sir,”

“Floods… do you really think you can bring me down with the law? I wasn’t a politician all my life to end up this way,” he muttered, and emptied his glass of water.
